5 Fun Wedding Trends for 2019

Updated: Feb 4, 2019

By Melanie Berg, Events Manager

Have you started wedding planning…or thinking about it? We spent the past few weeks, connecting with fellow Central Oregon wedding vendors to learn about new and exciting 2019 wedding trends in their areas of expertise.

Here are the top 5 trends for 2019 weddings:

Makeup

In early January, we had the opportunity to be a part of Central Oregon’s Wedding Show (#cascadeweddingshow) and meet up with Lori Marshall, owner and artist of Edge Hair and Makeup. We asked her what’s trending in makeup. Lori reminded us of the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and explains that although Meghan Markle can't be personally credited for sparking this movement, her natural and minimalist wedding makeup definitely had a huge part to play in the growing popularity of minimalist beauty. Markle has encouraged women everywhere to enhance, rather than conceal, their natural complexion on their big day.

“Gone are the days of heavy contouring, smoky eyes and matte lip shades—2019 brides are all about a dewy highlight, healthy natural skin, carefully placed pops of color and glossy nude lips. The best makeup version of yourself" - Lori Marshall, Edge Hair and Makeup

Balloons

As kids, balloons were a sign of party…and as adults they are blowing up (ha, literally!) the wedding scene and becoming the hottest trend in wedding décor. We’re not talking the basic balloons around an entrance or at the bridal show. Modern brides are getting creative with balloons of different sizes, colors and textures and using them in their engagement photos, wedding pics and reception décor.

Music

We met up with Leah Ross, DJ Kurlz from Flip Flop Sounds, while attending Central Oregon Wedding Association's annual vendor party.

Although Pachelbel's "Canon in D" or the wedding march may satisfy the traditional bride, the modern bride wants the ceremony processional song personalized.

“Now, it’s how unique can we get while keeping a familiar tune in people’s ear rising to the scene. Of course we love those gooey love songs, but the shift is soft, subtle versions (think acoustic) of songs we already know and love.” - DJ Kurlz, Flip Flop Sounds

The top 5 cover songs trending in Central Oregon, according to Flip Flop Sounds, are:

1. God Only Knows (feat. yMusic) by John Legend & Cynthia Erivo -- Remember that lovely Beach Boys song?

2. What a Wonderful World - Acoustic by Thomas Law -- A classic Louie Armstrong

3. Can’t Help Falling in Love by Haley Rienhart -- Her rendition of this Elvis song still holds strong!

4. Higher Love by James Vincent McMorrow -- A beautiful, soft & smooth version of Steve Winwood’s love song.

5. I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Sleeping at Last — This well-known Proclaimer’s song has gained popularity in the groom and bridal party entrance.

TACOS!

Taco bars are gaining popularity as couples are moving away from the traditional buffet and plated dinners…I mean, who doesn’t love tacos? They’re fun, easy to make, and delicious! We talked with one of the registered caterers for Benham Hall, Parrilla Grill, on the popularity of taco bars.

"Tacos aren't just for dinner" -Parilla Grill

As Parrilla Grill mentioned, tacos aren’t just for dinner. Morning after packages are also becoming popular and a great way to feed family and friends at a private residence or vacation rental. Having your taco bar professionally catered allows you to catch up with family and friends while the caterer does all the work. Did we mentioned adding margaritas and mimosas will help cure the post wedding hangover?

Elopement

Although elopement has been around forever, it is becoming one of the hottest trends in Central Oregon. With so many beautiful places to elope, it’s easy to find an intimate location to say “I Do”. Mike Hiatt Media, a wedding videographer, has seen an increase in requests to video elopements. He doesn’t mind as he loves filming weddings in beautiful locations. (What a lucky & talented guy!)
